KARA preps for Japanese awards show

Girl band KARA is preparing for their first appearance at the 26th Golden Disk Awards in Osaka, Japan.

With less than a month until the Golden Disk Awards show takes place in Osaka, the idol group is putting efforts into their outfits and choreography to the song "Step" which they will perform that night.

The five member girl band's performance at the ceremony will mark the first time the band has been invited to the event. The Golden Disk Awards Show was founded in Korea in 1986 and presented by the Music Industry Association of Korea, it aims to award outstanding musical artists.

KARA has performed well this year in Korea with their third album "Step" released in September selling more than 100,000 copies.

However despite their popularity, the girl group has not yet received a Golden Disk award since their debut in 2007. According to the Joongang Ilbo, the band is hopeful that this year they will be awarded for the first time.

The band has done exceptionally well this year in the neighboring nation of Japan. They've been invited to Japan's "Big 5" awards consisting of "Best Hit Song Festival," "FNS Music Festival," "Music Station Super Live 2011," "Japan Record Awards" and "NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen."

The band also won an award at the "Best Dressed Award" in Japan on Nov. 30 becoming the second Korean national to do so after actor Bae Yong-joon in 2004.
