GM recalls Winstorm SUV for antilock brake problems

GM Korea is voluntarily recalling its Winstorm sport utility vehicles for braking system problems, the transportation ministry said yesterday.

The 67,004 vehicles subject to the recall were manufactured between April 11, 2006 and Nov. 6, 2009, according to the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs.

Vehicles subject to the recall are the 2.0-liter diesel model of the crossover SUV.

The ministry said corrosion in the antilock brake system module affects the car safely stopping. It added that in severe cases, applying the brakes can cause the car to steer out of control. Owners of vehicles subject to the recall may have their vehicles serviced free of charge at any GM Korea service center starting today, or have their costs reimbursed if they have already replaced related parts.
