Doosan’s new 3MW windmill

Doosan Heavy Industries has started operating the country’s first 3-megawatt offshore windmill. The company said yesterday the windmill, which it built in cooperation with the Ministry of Knowledge Economy in the waters off Woljeong-ri, Jeju, has completed its trial operation and successfully produced 3 megawatts of electricity. It can supply power for 1,000 households, the company said.

Doosan is the third company in the world capable of running a windmill of this size after Denmark’s Vestas and Germany’s Siemens, it said. Since the global offshore wind power market is forecast to grow by 30 percent annually, Doosan has established an important foothold to enter the growing market by successfully launching the energy facility. The Jeju windmill has received an international certificate as the first of its kind in the nation. Doosan is currently building 15 more windmills.
