Olympic swimmer Park Tae-hwan, 23, yesterday at the Korean Army Training Center in Nonsan, South Chungcheong, after completing four weeks of basic military training. Park, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist and winner of three gold medals at the 2006 Doha Asian Games, has been exempted from his 21-month-long compulsory military service thanks to a special military law regarding Olympic athletes, but was still required to finish the month-long basic training. “I have grown up mentally through the four-week training and would like to show it from now on,” he told a media conference held at the center.
