U-19 squad routs Iran to reach AFC semis
The Taegeuk Warriors beat Iran 4-1 yesterday to advance to the semifinals of the Asian Football Confederations U-19 Championship.In the quarterfinal match held in Ras Al Khaimah stadium in the United Arab Emirates, Korea’s early lead on Moon Chang-in’s second-minute goal was offset by Alireza Jahanbakhsh’s strike in the 29th minute.
But Korea stormed ahead again with three second-half goals by Lee Gwang-hun, Kim Seung-jun and Kwon Chang-hoon.
Korea, the 2004 winners, will face off against Uzbekistan in the semifinal in the same venue on Wednesday night. Uzbekistan beat Syria in a penalty shootout in the quarterfinals.
In the other semifinal match, Iraq will play against Australia.
