Optimus G gets top billing from Consumer Reports

Korean tech leader LG Electronics’ latest Optimus G has been picked as the best smartphone by a U.S. magazine in its latest handset survey, industry sources said on Monday.

Consumer Reports said the Optimus G is the best smartphone choice for subscribers of two major mobile carriers in the United States.

It is the first time an LG smartphone has been the top recommendation of Consumer Reports, according to the sources.

The LG phone released by AT&T received the highest score of 79 points for its battery and display, outshining the Galaxy S3 from Samsung Electronics (78 points) and the iPhone 5 (77).

The Optimus G that is available from Sprint Nextel also garnered the top score of 77, while the Galaxy S3 got 76 points and the iPhone won 75 on this network.

The latest Optimus G has a 4.7-inch high-definition IPS+ display, developed by LG Display, and runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro processor on the faster LTE network.

LG unveiled the Optimus G in September and rolled it out in Japan, the U.S. and Canada in a bid to regain its presence in the global handset market, with an estimated one million units sold in the fourth quarter.
