North fires rocket that can strike U.S.

북한이 어제 오전 장거리 로켓을 성공적으로 전격 발사해, 남한과 미국, 일본을 깜짝 놀라게 했다.
Following two previous failed attempts to launch a similar rocket, nuclear-weapon-capable North Korea has proven it has the technology to deliver a payload 13,000 kilometers (8,075 miles) away, or any part of U.S. territory, according to a South Korean military source.

남한 군 소식통에 따르면 핵무기를 보유한 북한은 과거 비슷한 로켓 발사를 두 번 실패했지만 이번에는 탑재화물을 미국 본토 도달 가능 거리인 1만3천 킬로미터까지 날려보낼 수 있는 기술력을 보유했다는 것을 입증한 셈이다.
The North's official Korean Central News Agency reported that "the launch of the second version of satellite Kwangmyongsong-3 was successful through the carrier rocket Unha-3 at the Space Center in Cholsan County, North Pyongan Province."

북한의 조선중앙통신은 "평안북도 철산군 우주센터에서 광명성 3호 두 번째 인공위성을 은하 3호 로켓에 실어 성공적으로 발사했다"고 보도했다.
The outside world believes North Korea's intention is to test an intercontinental ballistic missile, although it said it wanted to put a communications satellite into orbit. KCNA said, "The satellite has been put into orbit." Outside analysts were still waiting to confirm if a satellite was successfully orbiting the earth.
*intercontinental ballistic missile: 대륙간 탄도미사일
*orbit: 궤도, 궤도를 돌다
북한은 통신위성을 궤도로 진입시키려 한다고 말했지만, 외부세계는 북한이 대륙간 탄도미사일을 시험한 것이라고 믿고 있다. KCNA는 "위성을 궤도로 진입시켰다"고 보도했다. 외부 분석가들은 인공위성이 성공적으로 궤도를 돌고 있는지 아닌지 확인 중이다.

북한의 전술 미사일 시험은 UN 안보리 결의안 위반이다. 안보리는 4월에 "비록 인공위성 발사 혹은 우주 발사체라고 발표하더라도 탄도 미사일 기술을 이용한 어떠한 발사도 UN 결의안을 심대하게 위반한 것"이라고 분명히 밝혔다.
