2NE1, Big Bang make NY Times list
If there was any doubt that K-pop had a massive year in the Americas in 2012, it’s officially been put to rest.
In an article listing the biggest concerts of the year compiled by The New York Times, 2NE1 and Big Bang were mentioned alongside Jay-z, The Rolling Stones, Mumford & Sons and Radiohead.
The U.S. newspaper of record said on Wednesday that this year was the year “K-pop arrived [in the States].”
“[The arena shows] were full of thousands of young, paying fans eager to see the girls of 2NE1 and the boys of BigBang, groups with zero American hits between them,” Jon Caramanica of The Times wrote.
2NE1 toured the United States and Japan while Big Bang performed for fans in Asia, the Americas and Europe.
There was to be only one show in the United Kingdom, but a second night was penciled in to meet demand.
The last chapter of the world tour will take place in Seoul at Olympic Park from Jan. 25 to 27.
