The Busan city government plans to present the Hollywood hotshot with an honorary citizenship while he is in town to promote his latest blockbuster “Jack Reacher.”
The certificate verifying Cruise’s place in the seaside city will be delivered by Mayor Hur Nam-shik.
Along with Cruise, lead actress Rosamund Pike and the director Christopher McQuarrie will also have the honor of calling Busan home.
The fact that Cruise, who’s in Korea for the sixth time, has decided to hold the press event in Busan played a big role in winning over the locals.
Although home to the annual Busan International Film Festival, this is the first time a Hollywood production has chosen to hold a press conference there, rather than in Seoul.
“Through the Hollywood actors’ visits we hope to again make a name for the city as the heart of films within Asia,” said a spokesperson for the city government.
