JYJ star causes Japan sales boom

Kim Jae-joong of the boy band JYJ has proven his popularity in Japan once again, this time through a short two-minute appearance on Japanese TV.

In a cameo on channel BS11’s “Korea Love” last week, Kim showed up to teach actor Park Yoo-hwan a little Japanese, as Park was preparing to meet his Japanese fans. It was just a brief appearance, but the clothes Kim wore in it instantly became hot items, selling out on Japanese online shopping malls, according to C-JeS Entertainment, Kim’s agency in Korea. An online clip of the appearance also rang up big clicks.

Many Japanese entertainment industry officials expressed surprise at the news.

“We think it was a good chance for audiences to see [Kim], as he has not made many TV appearances,” said one official.

JYJ had been forced to suspend its activities in Japan while it was in a legal battle with Japanese agency Avex, but a Japanese court ruled early this year that Avex could not claim exclusive management rights over the stars.
