Never spread IU rumors

Singer IU is neither pregnant nor getting married - and now the man who started rumors to the contrary has been caught.

“The perpetrator was caught by the prosecutors’ office and he confessed,” said music producer Jo Young-cheol, from the singer’s agency, Loen Entertainment, yesterday.

Rumors that IU was about to get married and/or was pregnant were spread in May throughout local securities companies. And while such rumormongering may seem trivial, Korean entertainers and entertainment companies take it very seriously.

“We are also investigating netizens who frequently leave malicious posts online,” Jo said, “and we will continue to take some strong measures to issues regarding defamation of our artists.”

IU previously said she was advised to miss a fellow actor’s movie screening, where she might be confronted with such rumors by a local TV talk show. She skipped the event, but asked her agency to find the person who started the rumor.
