Baek goes after nasty netizens

After singer Baek Ji-young was reported to have been preparing to sue netizens who posted hurtful comments about her miscarriage online, one of the netizens released a criminal complaint from the Suseo District Police on Saturday. The document, which seemed to have been issued last month, cited the comments the anonymous netizen posted online about Baek’s miscarriage.

After Baek got married and miscarried in June, she has been preparing to take legal action over the many negative comments posted online that blame her for losing the baby and criticizing her marriage.

“She has endured a lot due to the vulgar comments posted online simply because she is a [public figure],” said her agency last week when local media started to report on Baek’s intention to pursue legal action, according to reports.

“We have not actively responded to those comments as we wanted to respect freedom of speech,” the agency said. “But she is a woman before she is a celebrity, and she has decided to sue netizens as she feels she has been defamed.”

The controversial post with the copy of the document was online for a while and then was removed.
