결혼해 사는 것 살아보고 결혼하는 것 결혼 안 하고 사는 것
2010년 혼인상태생명표’에 따르면 2010년에 태어난 남자아이 다섯 명 중 한 명(20.9%)은 평생 결혼하지 않거나 못할 것으로 전망됐다. 동갑내기 여자아이도 15.1%는 죽을 때까지 미혼일 것이라 한다. 2010년생이 결혼한 뒤 이혼할 확률도 남자 25.1%, 여자 24.7%로 나타났다. 넷 중 하나꼴로 배우자와 헤어진다는 얘기다. 2010년생이 하늘에서 뚝 떨어진 양 특별해서가 아니라 과거•현재의 추이를 꼼꼼히 적용해 산출한 결과다. 사회가 그런 방향으로 가고 있는 것이다.한 유명 결혼정보회사가 며칠 전 흥미 있는 서비스를 선보였다. 재혼을 원하는 남녀를 위한 ‘계약 재혼’이다. 사실 결혼하는 이유는 단 한 가지 ‘사랑’이지만 이혼하는 사연은 천차만별이다. 재혼하려 해도 걸림돌이 한두 가지가 아니다. 그래서 결혼정보회사의 전문 매니저가 어느 정도 교제기간을 거친 양 당사자와 상의해 경제•가사 분담, 가족관계, 라이프스타일, 성생활, 자기관리, 동거기간, 헤어질 경우의 조건 등에 대한 합의를 이끌어내 계약서를 작성하고 일단 동거부터 시작한다는 것이다. 한마디로 ‘살아보고 결혼하세요’다. 이 회사 이웅진(48) 대표는 “일부 비판도 예상되지만 정식 결혼에 앞서 사회통념상 말하기 꺼리는 항목들을 계약서로 명확히 해놓고 먼저 살아보는 게 성공할 확률이 높다고 판단했다”고 말했다. 어제까지 열흘 동안 40대를 중심으로 60명(남자 32, 여자 28명)이 신청했다니 첫 시도치곤 관심을 모은 셈이다.
평생 독신이 점점 는다 해도 조물주의 섭리가 여전한 이상 진짜 처녀귀신•총각귀신으로 늙어 죽진 않을 것이다. 앞으로 미혼 남녀가 사귀고 합치는 방식도 점점 다양해질 것이다. 결혼하지 않고 파트너와 사는 길을 택한 프랑수아올랑드 프랑스 대통령 같은 경우다. 우리 사회도 결혼이 꼭 거쳐야 할 절차인지 의문을 표하는 비율이 높아지는 추세다. 각자 가정을 유지하면서 상대 이성과 파트너 관계를 지속하는 한부모 가정의 가장도 주변에서 보았다. 결혼한 부부 못지않은 ‘신의성실의 원칙’이 필수이겠지만.
서서히 변화하는 남녀 간 결합, 가족 형태에 비해 우리 사회의 법적•제도적 준비는 논의조차 활성화되지 못한 처지다. 사안 자체가 문화•종교•여론 측면에서 매우 민감하기 때문일 것이다. 정치인들도 아직은 득표에 마이너스라고 생각하는 것 같다. 그러나 전통방식의 부부가 아닌 커플의 법적 지위, 그들 자녀의 권리 등을 감안하면 프랑스의 시민연대계약법(PACS), 독일의 파트너등록법 같은 제도 도입이 언젠가는 큰 이슈로 떠오를 것이다. 적어도 2010년생이 혼인 적령기에 이르기 전에 말이다.
