SS501 singer enters military

Heo Young-saeng, a member of the boy group SS501, started his mandatory military service yesterday in Nonsan, South Chungcheong.

“I’m finally going,” he said on his Twitter yesterday morning. “I will stay healthy, and I wish good luck and good health to everyone.”

Heo didn’t post any photos of himself with the message, suggesting he’s feeling awkward about his newly-buzzed hairdo.

The singer will go for basic training at Nonsan and will then be dispatched to serve for 21 months as a conscripted policeman.

He is the second band member to go into the army after Kyujong, who enlisted in July last year.

SS501 was one of the biggest K-pop acts in the second-half of last decade, but in 2010 their contracts expired at their management company, and since then they have signed with different agencies and pursued solo careers. However, the group continues to insist it is not broken up.
