BASF to establish R&D center at SKKU

BASF, a German chemical company, said yesterday it intends to set up its new Electronic Materials Research and Development (R&D) Center Asia Pacific in partnership with Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) in Suwon, Gyeonggi.

Located within the SKKU campus about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from Seoul, the facility will serve as an integrated hub for electronic materials research in the region.

The R&D Center is scheduled to open next year, the company said.

BASF signed a letter of intent on Thursday at a ceremony in Brussels in the presence of Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Yoon Sang-jick.

Starting from 2014, an estimated 40 scientific and technical professionals will work at the new R&D facility. The lab will be located in a building at the Natural Science Campus of SKKU.
