Daewoo Shipbuilding to build 5 very large crude oil carriers

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, one of the country’s major shipbuilders, said yesterday that it won a 499 billion Korean won ($474 million) order to build five very large crude carriers (VLCC) from Scorpio Tankers. The company said that these “eco ships,” will have the latest fuel-efficient technology and will be delivered by the first half of 2016. The VLCC will be 336 meters long by 60 meters wide and can carry 300,000 tons of crude oil per vessel.
