Jung Woo gives out hugs

Actor Jung Woo went to the popular shopping neighborhood of Myeong-dong in central Seoul yesterday.

But he wasn’t there to buy anything - he went to hug.

The star of the cable TV drama “Respond 1994” on tvN, which ended just last week, reportedly wanted to celebrate the program’s success of gaining a viewership rating of more than 10 percent, which is rare for a cable TV programs.

He announced that he would start hugging 300 fans in front of Lotte Department Store at 1 p.m., but people started to gather as early as 10 a.m. to make sure they get on the precious spots.

TvN limited the number of fans the star would hug due to safety reasons. Also, while it had planned on distributing reservations for a spot in the hug line at 10:30 a.m., demand caused the broadcaster to start handing out spots earlier.

Around 1 p.m. Jung appeared on stage as promised and hugged his fans.

Jung is scheduled to appear on SBS radio’s “Power Time” program today at noon, with host Choi Hwa-jung, telling about how he was first offered the role in “Respond 1994,” along with stories about his favorite scenes from the drama.
