K-pop groups meet on sports field

While the entertainment industry is always fiercely competitive, members of many top K-pop boy bands gathered yesterday for a decidedly nonmusical sort of contest.

Instead of music, this showdown was athletic, as MBC’s “Idol Star Athletics Championship” was being filmed in Jamsil Sports Complex in southeastern Seoul. Among the 200 idol competitors were Min-ho of SHINee, Ho-ya and Woo-hyun of Infinite, Seul-ong of 2AM, Ba-ro of B1A4 and members of Beast, Block B, B.A.P and ZE:A.

The show is scheduled to air over the Lunar New Year holidays at the end of the month. The competitions include archery, running, footvolley and, for the first time, curling.

Kim Sung-ju, Jun Hyun-moo and Heo Il-hoo will host the program, which airs twice a year.
