Uee wins suit against plastic surgeon

The local newspaper reported that the Seoul Central District Court yesterday ordered the plastic surgeon, listed only by his surname Jung, to pay 3 million won, or about $2,780, in compensation to Uee, whose real name is Kim Yu-jin.
To promote his cosmetic surgery clinic, Jung uploaded a photo of Uee onto his clinic’s website in July 2012. The photo, which showed Uee’s face and other body parts, was titled “Uee’s Diet,” and had the description, “Uee looks pretty, but her thighs and lovehandles are a bit pitiful.” Jung took the photo down after receiving complaints from Uee’s agency, Pledis. However, the agency still filed a damage suit against Jung, requesting 20 million won in compensation.
In court, Jung said he “didn’t mean to defame Uee, but only used a photo of her that was published in the media.” He added that he did not intend to defame the singer or use her portrait rights commercially.
However, the judge said Jung had violated Uee’s publicity rights and held Jung responsible for his actions.
