‘Frozen’ grabs 5 million views

Disney’s latest offering “Frozen” has become the most-watched animation in Korea, pulling in 5,441,438 views in just over two weeks.

According to the Korean Film Council yesterday, the film amassed 628,995 views on Saturday alone and has surpassed the milestone set by “Kung Fu Panda 2” in 2011 (5,060,000).

“Frozen” also displaced several other animation films, including “Kung Fu Panda” (4,650,000), “Shrek 2” (3,300,000) and “Howl’s Moving Castle” (3,010,000).

The film has topped the box office ever since opening on Jan. 17 and the song “Let It Go,” sung by Idina Menzel from the hit TV show “Glee,” is at the top of various music charts.

Of course, it’s not just in Korea that the animation is a hit. The tale - based on Hans Andersen’s “Snow Queen” - topped the box office when it was released in the United States in November.

As it stands, “Frozen” is the 14th most-viewed foreign film of all time across all genres in Korea.

It looks as if it won’t be long until it surpasses “Inception” (5,920,000), “Les Miserables” (5,910,000) and “Mission Impossible 3” (5,740,000).

It took “Inception” 30 days to hit the five million mark.
