‘Infinite’ election show pleases critics

“Election: Choice 2014,” an episode of the weekly MBC show “Infinite Challenge,” won a special prize from the Korean Producers and Director’s Association on Wednesday.

Now in its ninth year, the MBC show came up with its “Election” episodes to tackle its declining viewership by selecting a new captain to lead the team for the next decade. Just like in real elections, the production team installed polling booths in 10 different cities where more than 450,000 voters took part to cast their ballots.

The show’s panels have mainly been led by prominent comedian Yoo Jae-seok in the past.

“The ‘Choice 2014’ was designed to find our way for the next 10 years,” said producer Kim Tae-ho on Wednesday, noting that “their upcoming journey would solely be guided by viewers’ voices.”

Over the last decade, “Infinite Challenge” has enjoyed its status as Korea’s most beloved show. Next month, the team heads to Songdo, Incheon, to participate in an auto racing festival.
