Amy pleads guilty to drug charges

Entertainer Amy whose real name is Lee Yoon-ji pleaded guilty to a charge of repeatedly using zolpidem, which is a sleeping medication that is illegal without a proper prescription in Korea, according to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office yesterday.

During the first hearing held yesterday, Lee’s lawyer said that she “admits to receiving and using the zolpidem medication.”

Last month, Lee was charged without detention for receiving 85 pills of zolpidem from a 34-year-old woman surnamed Kwon that she met at the Seobu Probation Office last year and taking 15 of them.

However, Lee’s lawyer said that it wasn’t on Lee’s demand that she got her hands on the pills but was first suggested by Kwon on a “spirit of goodwill.”

When asked by the judge if she is admitting to her charges, Lee who appeared at the court wearing a dark navy one-piece nodded her head without saying anything.
