Entertainer-actor Hong Seok-cheon stepped into the cup ramen business on Friday with two products he reportedly co-designed, further broadening his thriving culinary portfolio that dates back to 2002.
GS Retail, the operator behind GS25, the country’s second-largest convenience store, announced on Thursday it would add two cup ramen products named Hong Ramen to its brand line.
Co-created by Hong, the product comes in two flavors - spicy cheese and spicy seafood - and is sold at 1,400 won ($1.33).
Hong, 43, uploaded a photo of Hong Ramen onto his Twitter account on Thursday and wrote that it will be sold exclusively at GS25.
The former male model gained media attention in 2000 when he revealed he was gay in what was considered a highly conservative society. Although it could be argued that matters haven’t changed much since then, the actor overcame initial public disapproval, especially among the younger generation, in part because of his sincere efforts to fight for gay rights.
From Vietnamese cuisine to Greek and Thai, Hong has established a solid foothold in the Itaewon area as a restaurateur. His most well-known restaurants include My Thai and My Chelsea.
