Jeju Air announces it will start flight from Incheon to Okinawa

Jeju Air, the nation’s largest low-cost carrier, said on Monday that it is launching a flight to Okinawa, Japan, starting December.

The affiliate of Aekyung Group said it will operate a daily flight from Incheon to Okinawa from Dec. 1. The route was previously solely operated by Asiana Airlines, but the monopoly was broken in December 2012 when Jin Air, an LCC under Korean Air Lines, began to operate.

Besides Jeju Air, another Korean LCC, T’way Airlines also plans to launch a flight next month.

If both LCCs began to operate from December, total flights heading to Okinawa will be expanded to 39 in a week, more than double the current number.
