Jin sets world record in 10-meter air pistol

Jin Jong-oh set a world record in the men’s 10-meter air pistol event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Changwon en route to delivering Korea’s first gold medal of the competition.

Jin, who is ranked No.1 in the men’s 10-meter air pistol, scored 206 points in the final, beating Myanmar’s Naung Ye Tun, who had 201.

Jin shattered the previous record of 202.8 points set by Hoang Xuan Vinh of Vietnam last year.

The five-time Olympic medalist is the first shooter to have world records in both 10-meter and 50-meter air pistol.

Kim Hak-man won silver in the men’s 50-meter rifle prone event with 206.6 points. American Matthew Emmons took the gold with 208.3 points.

Despite their performances, both Jin and Kim will have to go through the national team selection trials next year to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro because Olympic spots are given only to countries, not individuals.
