Kepco installs reactor vessel for UAE Barakah unit 2

On Friday, the Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco) said that the company completed installing the Barakah 2 reactor vessel in the United Arab Emirates early this week.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ruler’s representative in the Western Region, joined the installation ceremony on Tuesday.

The Barakah 1 reactor was installed last May, when President Park Geun-hye visited the construction site.

Barakah unit 1 is aiming to complete construction by May 2017. Barakah unit 2 is scheduled to be completed in the following year.

Two additional units, Barakah 3 and 4, are also slated to be completed in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Korea and the UAE sealed the nuclear deal in 2009 to build the four Korean light-water reactors to generate a total of 5,600 megawatts.
