Hyundai Motor abandons Hankook tires for new Equus

Hyundai Motor will not use Hankook Tires for its new Equus premium sedan when it introduces a fully changed model in the fourth quarter. It will use imported tires such as Michelin or Continental instead, according to the industry.

It is the first time that Hyundai isn’t going to use Hankook’s original equipment tires for the Equus since its first-generation model was rolled out in 1999.

Sources in the industry said customers complained about noise from tires installed on Hyundai Motor’s large size sedan Genesis. Hyundai used Hankook’s 19-inch Noble2 tires for the Genesis, but replaced tires installed on about 43,000 Genesis with Continental and Kumho Tire products in March.
