Along the full length of the Tate Modern museum’s iconic Turbine Hall in London are 240 triangle planters filled with soil from the British capital’s numerous parks and gardens. The installation work by Mexican artist Abraham Cruzvillegas is the first of the Hyundai Commission, a series of annual site-specific installations by renowned contemporary artists. Hyundai Motor is sponsoring the commission in an 11-year partnership with Tate. According to the museum, the artist planted nothing in the planters but will see what will sprout up from the soil during the exhibition period, through April 3. The installation work, titled “Empty Lot,” is consistent with Cruzvillegas’ sculptural works made from local found objects and materials. Provided by the museum
