Kim brings home another medal from Romania

Cross country skier Kim Magnus of South Korea won another medal at the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2016 in Rasnov, Romania on Wednesday. Coming out of the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics at Lillehammer, Norway, the previous week where Kim won three medals, he placed second in the men’s 10km classic final with 29 minutes and 9 seconds after Klaebo Johannes Hoesflot of Norway. Kim recorded 6 minutes and 43.8 seconds in the first lap, 4.7 seconds behind Hoesflot.

In the second lap, however, Kim shortened the gap to 1.8 seconds, showing the possibility of clinching gold. By the last lap, Kim seemed out of breath and had to hand the gold to Hoesflot.

This was Kim’s second silver at Rasnov. He grabbed his first silver on Tuesday in the men’s 1.3 kilometer sprint free event. He finished the sprint free event with a time of 2 minutes and 31.42 seconds, only 0.67 seconds behind Hoesflot who claimed gold in the event on Tuesday.

“I think the fatigue from the previous week at Lillehammer must have been accumulated,” said Kim. “But still, I was surprised and satisfied at the same time with the result.”
