A Korean national has been found infected with the Zika virus for the first time./ 한국인 지카바이러스 감염 환자가 처음으로 발생한 것이다
According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a 43-year-old male tested positive for the virus after he returned to Korea on March 11 from a 22-day business trip to the northeast region of Brazil./ 질병관리본부에 따르면 브라질 동북부로 22일 동안 출장을 갔다가 3월 11일 귀국한 43세의 남성이 지카바이러스 양성 판정을 받았다고 한다
The real problem is that the man only took the test on March 21, 10 days after he returned to Korea./ 심각한 문제는 이 사람이 귀국한지 10일이 지나 3월 21일에야 검사를 받았다는 것이다
What happened in advance of the test has us dumbfounded./ 검사를 받기 전에 일을 생각하면 아찔하다
As he showed no symptoms when he returned, the infrared detection system at the airport could not detect any sign of illness./ 환자는 귀국할 때 아무런 증상이 없어서 공항 적외선 탐지 장치가 질병의 징후를 전혀 감지하지 못했다는 것이다
When the symptoms began to show after 16 days, he went to a neighborhood clinic, but was sent home after receiving prescriptions for the flu./ 16일 이후에 그 증상이 시작되어 인근 병원으로 갔지만 감기처방만 받고 귀가했다
He told the clinic he had traveled to Brazil./ 환자는 병원에 자신이 브라질을 갔다 왔다고 말했다
After he suffered acute muscle pain and rashes, he revisited the clinic and was tested for the virus./ 환자는 근육통과 발진으로 고통이 심하자 병원을 재방문하여 지카바이러스 검사를 받았다
If the doctor had not reported it to a public health center after linking it to the Zika virus infection, no one would have ever found out about the arrival of the virus here./ 만약 의사가 지카바이러스 감염을 의심하고 보건소에 신고를 하지 않았다면 아무도 이 바이러스가 한국에 유입되었다는 것을 모르고 있을 가능성이 많다
We cannot rule out the possibility that we have several patients infected with the virus due to the unavailability of their travel records./ 여행기록을 제대로 확인하지 않아 지카바이러스에 감염된 환자가 숨어 있을 가능성을 배제할 수 없다
Our health and quarantine authorities must aggressively track their itineraries overseas and thoroughly manage the data if they traveled to dangerous places./ 따라서 보건 및 검역당국은 위험지역을 여행한 사람들의 해외여행기록을 적극적으로 추적하여 그 자료를 철저히 관리해야 할 것이다
There is no better way than pre-emptive action to block the spread of the harmful virus in the initial stages./ 초기 단계에서 위험한 바이러스의 확산을 차단하기 위한 선제적인 조치보다 더 좋은 방법은 없다
However, the Centers for Disease Control still maintains a passive attitude by asserting that the Zika virus does not spread through respiratory infection and that we do not have the habitat for the mosquito that spreads the virus in Korea./ 그럼에도 불구하고 질병관리본부는 지카바이러스가 호흡기를 통해서 확산되지 않고 한국에는 지카바이러스를 확산시키는 모기가 서식하지 않는다며 소극적은 자세를 보이고 있다
But when it comes to the control of infectious diseases from foreign countries, what matters most is devising methodical countermeasures with an aggressive spirit./ 하지만 외국에서 발생한 전염병을 통제하는 데는 무엇보다 적극적인 자세로 조직적으로 대응하는 것이 중요하다
We learned painful lessons from the outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome last year./ 우리는 지난 해 중동호흡기증후군 발생으로 아픈 교훈을 배웠다
Some medical experts point out the possibility of the Zika virus being transmitted by other kinds of mosquitoes as well as sexual contact./ 일부 의사들은 다른 종류의 모기와 성적 접촉에 의해서 지카바이러스가 확산될 수도 있다고 지적하고 있다
Health authorities must prepare for future outbreaks of the virus by fully keeping track of the first patient through continuous clinical monitoring and precise tests, and by securing clinical data large enough to brace for the next onslaught of the virus./ 보건당국은 지속적인 임상 관찰과 정밀검사를 통해 국내 첫 지카바이러스 감염 환자를 철저히 관리하고 지카바이러스의 추가 발생을 위한 임상 데이터를 충분히 확보해 향후 추가 발생을 대비해야 할 것이다
What worries us most is the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro from Aug. 5 to 21./ 무엇보다 우려되는 것은 8월 5일부터 21일까지 리오데자네이로에서 개최되는 하계 올림픽이다
We urge our health authorities to come up with their best solutions to protect the health and safety of our citizens who will go to the world sports festival./ 세계 스포츠 축제를 위해 떠나는 우리 국민의 건강과 안전을 지키기 위해 보건 당국이 최선의 해결책을 찾아 줄 것을 촉구한다/
