Today’s opening game between the Doosan Bears and Samsung Lions will be a rematch from last year’s Korean Series, in which the Bears edged the Lions to claim the KBO title. The Lions have been waiting to get revenge on the Bears, who put an end to their dreams of grabbing their fifth consecutive series title.
The Lion’s home opener will also be full of various spectacles. Most notably, the opening pitch will be thrown by the Korean star figure skater Kim Yuna.
The game is also the first to be played in the Lions new home stadium, Daegu Samsung Lions Park.
Jeju United FC at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors
2 p.m. Saturday, Jeonju World Cup Stadium, Jeonju, North Jeolla
Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors will host Jeju United FC on Saturday in the third week of K-League Classic matches.
Fans are waiting to see whether or not former World Cup striker Lee will make his debut for Jeju. Lee inked a two-year contract with Jeju on March 25 after playing for Jeonbuk last year while on loan from El Jaish of Qatar. Lee Keun-ho has played in 75 international matches for South Korea and scored 19 goals. Earning a reputation as one of the best forwards in Korea due to his work ethic and selfless style of plays, Lee joining Jeju is likely to give the much needed boost for the club’s offense.
