Line affiliate creates joint corporation with Thai firm

LINE Corporation’s affiliate LINE Biz Plus and Bangkok Mass Transit System PLC, which runs Thailand’s RabbitPay System Co, established a joint corporation called Rabbit LINE Pay. In a press released on Tuesday, LINE said the two companies will help each other in their business goals in Thailand,

Currently, there are more than 5 million people using Rabbit Card, which is a pre-paid card that can be used in some 4,000 stores that are primarily concentrated in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region, and for public transportation

LINE entered the Thai market last year, and about 1.5 million people signed up for the company’s mobile payment service. The company said it is growing rapidly as there are so many LINE messenger users in Thailand. There are about 33 million people who use the messenger app.

Currently, LINE is operating 300 stores in Thailand.

LINE said the new corporation will develop various kinds of both online and offline payment services. The two companies both put up the same capital to establish Rabbit LINE Pay.
