Women in cultural fields call for policy changes

Members of the Women’s Association of Culture and Arts (WACA) read a statement Wednesday morning near Gyeongbok Palace in central Seoul, urging the government to take legal measures against some of the biggest names in arts and entertainment after recent revelations of sexual misconduct. “We ask for policies that properly reflect the special circumstances in the arts field, and policies that can actually create change,” read the statement. WACA was formed in January 2017 by women across seven different cultural fields, including literature, art, film, design, curation, photography and publishing. The placard reads, “Sexual violence in the culture and arts field will not disappear with policies that do not reflect the special circumstances of the field.” [YONHAP]
