Into the woods

London-based Italian artist Quayola’s work “Remains” is installed at Paradise Art Space at the Paradise City resort complex on Incheon’s Yeongjong Island. The beautiful black-and-white landscape of a forest is different from photographs or paintings, inspiring curiosity. The artist 3-D scanned a forest with high-precision laser scanners and created digital renderings of the forest, visualized them and printed them on archival paper. Accordingly, it is “a collaboration between the artist and machines and algorithms,” the artist told Korean reporters last month, adding “the machine influences the way we perceive.” That explains the 36-year-old artist’s diverse works with computer technologies, 50 pieces of which make his first-ever solo show in Asia “Quaylola: Asymmetric Archaeology” in Paradise Art Space. The solo show runs through Feb. 24 and will be open during the Lunar New Year Holidays. [MOON SO-YOUNG]
