SK Innovation forms new materials subsidiary

SK Innovation, the country’s leading energy and chemical company, formed a new subsidiary focused on the materials business Tuesday, naming the new unit SK ie technology.

The decision came after SK Innovation decided to spin off the business in February.

The new company will be devoted to producing parts essential for electronic devices, such as lithium ion battery separators and transparent polyimide films.

The films are used in flexible mobile phone displays and are expected to be produced in great quantities this year with the large-scale introduction of foldable phones. Rho Jae-sok, former head of the business department, will serve as CEO of SK ie technology.
