Safer ships

Hyundai Heavy Industries demonstrates its artificial intelligence (AI)-operated safety management system for ships. The AI system can detect a fire on a vessel immediately, unlike the past system which took around 2 minutes to recognize the hazard. This is the first time AI has been applied to a shipbuilding safety system. The Korean shipbuilder on Thursday announced that it was the first in the industry to receive an Approval in Principle (AIP) by the Korean Register, a classification society, and Liberian Registry that verifies the technology and safety standards.
