SK Innovation looks for environmental inspiration at CES

SK Innovation Vice Chairman Kim Jun emphasized the importance of net zero emissions at a meeting on the sidelines of CES 2022 in Las Vegas on Thursday.
Kim visited the electronics show with a group of executives from the company, visiting various booths to get inspiration for the company’s “from carbon to green” business strategy.
SK Innovation, an oil refiner and battery maker, pledged last year to change the company’s business identity to “from carbon to green.”
It had said that it would increase so-called green assets — assets related to eco-friendly businesses such as electric vehicle batteries — from the current 30 percent of total assets to 70 percent by 2025.
“Achieving net zero carbon emissions is a target we must achieve for a sustainable future,” said the vice chairman at the meeting.
“We should be strongly determined to reach net zero emissions, which is the ultimate goal of the ‘from carbon to green’ strategy.”
SK Innovation requires its subsidiaries to grade their emissions levels on a scale from one to three. Their mid to long-term plans to lower the emissions were checked during the meeting on Thursday, such as battery subsidiary SK On’s battery recycling business plan.
SK Geo Centric’s project to recycle discarded plastics and SK Lubricant’s plan to utilize used lubrication oils were also discussed.
