The PGA Tour continues over the Lunar New Year holiday with the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, California.

The Farmers Insurance Open kicked off on Wednesday with Im Sung-jae heading into the second round tied for 53rd, carding two-under-par.

The Farmer’s Insurance Open is a four-day, 72 holes stroke play event but the tournament was shifted to a Wednesday-through-Saturday format to avoid conflict with the NFL conference championship games. The Saturday final round is the first of its kind on the PGA Tour since the 1996 Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Alongside Im, four other Koreans — Kang Sung-hoon, Lee Kyoung-hoon and Noh Seung-yul — are vying for the trophy in the event.

Im is also the only Korean player on the PGA Tour with a win in the 2021-22 PGA season. Im has now played seven events in the PGA season that started in September last year, and won a trophy on his 100th start, at the Shriners Children’s Open on Oct. 10 last year at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was his second PGA Tour title.

Im’s Fedex ranking also rose from his previous fifth-place to a third position after he tied for 11th at The American Express last week, carding a 16-under-par. Kim is in 33rd position and Lee is in 74th.
