The Korea World Class Enterprise Association (KWCA) named Lee Chun-hyuk, CEO of Dongjin Semichem, as the chairman of the organization, which supports promising small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

The association approved the nomination during its regular general meeting held on Thursday at Four Seasons Hotel in central Seoul.

The new chairman vowed to facilitate the overseas expansion and marketing of member SMEs.

KWCA "will make best efforts to help member enterprises become 'global hidden champions' through their distinctive technologies and marketing capabilities," the new chairman said in a statement.

"By encouraging members to actively share their advanced technology and management know how, the KWCA is aiming to help them in a practical manner and enhance their corporate value," he said.

The association is born out of the World Class 300, a state-run project started in 2011. The project sets the goal of nurturing over 300 export-oriented SMEs with favorable loans and consulting on intellectual property and global expansion.

KWCA members totaled 303 as of May.

The association started a new initiative last year to select 150 SMEs with high potential over 10 years and provide an average of 3 billion won to each company for four years.

The KWCA signed an agreement with Dankook University last year to cooperate on recruitment and research and development.

The two parties will begin training sessions to link the students with member companies.
