Final journey

The funeral hearse of Korea’s first Culture Minister Lee O-young departs the funeral parlor of Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno District and drives past the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History in Gwanghwamun, which used to be the location of the Ministry of Culture when Lee served as minister.

To commemorate Lee, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to project some of the final words he wrote for the Korean public on a large screen installed in the museum.

“I enjoyed looking at the stars with you. Just like the positions of the stars in the sky are mysteriously ordered, so are the stars — the morality — in you. Please believe that human beings are good. I share this heart and say goodbye,” states the quote.

Lee was buried on the same day at Cheonan Memorial Park in South Chungcheong.
