CGV raised ticket prices for the third time since the Covid-19 pandemic began, the multiplex chain said Friday.

Starting April 4, ticket prices will be raised a minimum of 1,000 won ($0.80) and some will be raised 5,000 won.

Regular 2-D movies will be 14,000 won on weekdays and 15,000 won on weekends, 1,000 won more expensive than before.

IMAX, 4DX, ScreenX and Starium will raise their prices by 2,000 won. Tickets for screenings in premium theaters like the Cine de Chef, Tempur Cinema and Gold Class will be up to 5,000 won more.

CGV said the pandemic has taken a toll on the film industry, including production, investment and distribution, and that increasing ticket prices was “inevitable.”

It previously raised its prices in October 2020 and April 2021.
