Rhee Ken, a Korean YouTuber and former Korean Navy special warfare officer who went to Ukraine in March to fight Russia, denied allegations that a cameraman follows him around while he is on the battlefield and said that his team will take legal action against the person who is spreading this false information.

A staff member working behind the scenes of Rhee's YouTube channel "Rokseal" on Monday denied the claims about Rhee being accompanied by a cameraman in Ukraine by posting a photo of Rhee on the battlefield and writing, "This person claims that the man who departed with Lee [to Ukraine] is a cameraman, but he is actually a former sergeant major of the Marine Corps. He was given a clear mission which was to obtain evidence of war crimes requested by the International Criminal Court (ICC). But the situation became too dangerous, and with Rhee's call, the former sergeant major did not partake in the mission."

Rhee's YouTube channel staff member also added that Rhee has been fighting in Ukraine since the beginning of the war and that Rhee is "on duty as the commander of the International Corps' most important team."

He gave additional reasons for Rhee's participation in the war such as "granting special warfare technology and know-how in advanced countries, granting operational strategies as field commanders, and securing evidence for war crimes to be submitted to the ICC."

"Unlike the person spreading this false information, officer Rhee is not there to just stand around on the battlefield — he is there to help in the best ways possible," wrote the YouTube channel's staff.

The post emphasized that Rhee and his team are preparing to take legal action against the person spreading this false information.

The claim that Rhee brings around a cameraman while fighting in the war was made by a man who also said he was fighting in Ukraine, on Facebook, Sunday.

The Facebook post reads, "YouTuber Rheen Ken had come to the battlefield with a cameraman," and continues, "Didn't you feel the other foreign volunteer soldiers whispering when they saw it?"

On March 7, Rhee and his team announced that they arrived in Ukraine despite “strong objection” from Seoul’s Foreign Ministry. With the Level Four travel alert, the highest in the four-tier system, the Korean government has banned travel to Ukraine since the attacks began in February.

The members of Rhee's team who have returned to Korea have been charged with violations of the passport law.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, nine Koreans went to Ukraine to participate in the war as volunteer soldiers, and as of last month, four people, including Rhee, still have not returned to Korea. The authorities plan to conduct an investigation as soon as they return home.

Rhee was once one of the most sought-after TV personalities after his appearance on the YouTube reality series “Fake Men” became a huge hit two years ago. But his popularity didn’t last long, as a journalist-turned-YouTuber revealed Rhee sexually harassed a woman in 2017. Rhee admitted he was found guilty but claimed he was wrongly accused.
