Crime action film “The Roundup” surpassed 9 million in ticket sales, according to the Korea Box Office Information System (Kobis) on Monday.

“The Roundup” hit local theaters on May 18 and is the sequel to the 2017 film “The Outlaws.”

It marks the most tickets sold for a film released in Korea this year, as well as since the Covid-19 pandemic started. “The Roundup” is expected to soon surpass the 10 million mark. In Korea, surpassing 10 million in ticket sales is regarded as the milestone of a commercially successful motion picture.

If “The Roundup” garners over 10 million in ticket sales, it will be the first “10 million film” in three years since “Parasite” (2019).

The film stars actor Ma Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee, as villain-tackling police officer Ma Seok-do. Actor Son Suk-ku plays a serial killer named Kang Hae-sang.
