Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Thursday and discussed cooperation on the development of electric vehicles (EVs), hydrogen energy and clean mobility.

Chung and Widodo met at the Lotte Hotel in central Seoul Thursday and discussed ways in which Indonesia and Hyundai Motor can strengthen cooperation in future industries.

“I expect Hyundai Motor to play a big role in the growth of Indonesia’s clean mobility, including the development of EVs,” Widodo said during the meeting, according to Hyundai Motor. “I further hope that Hyundai Motor will become an important partner during the construction of Indonesia’s new administrative capital.”

The Indonesian government is currently pushing to relocate its capital to East Kalimantan on the island of Borneo, in a move to resolve the overpopulation problem in Jakarta and to seek the balanced development of the county. The new capital is planned to be built as a smart city.

“Hyundai Motor has a diverse business portfolio encompassing vehicles, construction, logistics, robots, advanced air mobility and eco-friendliness,” said Chung. “I look forward to expanding cooperation with Indonesia from eco-friendly to cutting-edge future fields.”
