Suh Yung-min, wife of Hanwha Group Chairman Kim Seung-youn, passed away Tuesday at the age of 61.
 
According to industry insiders on Tuesday, Suh passed away at a hospital in the United States the day before after a battle with cancer.
 
Kim is said to be discussing funeral arrangements while staying in the U.S. with his three sons, including his eldest son Kim Dong-kwan, CEO of Hanwha Solutions.
 
Suh is the daughter of Suh Jeong-hwa, who served as Minister of Home Affairs in 1997. She married Kim in 1982, while she was a third-year student at Seoul National University College of Pharmacy. Suh continued her studies after marriage and graduated at the top of her class.
 
Suh and Kim have three sons. In addition to Kim Dong-kwan, they are Kim Dong-won, vice president of Hanwha Life Insurance, and Kim Dong-seon, managing director of Hanwha Hotels & Resorts.
 
The date of Suh’s funeral has not yet been confirmed. According to a Hanwha Group official, her funeral will be held privately according to the wishes of Suh’s family.
