Seoul POPCON, formerly Seoul Comic Con, starts Thursday
The 2022 Seoul POPCON will take place this week. It will feature pop culture experts from in and outside Korea at southern Seoul’s Coex from Thursday through Sunday.
The Seoul POPCON, short for Seoul Pop Culture Convention, is the rebranded name of the annual Seoul Comic Con event and covers a wide variety of entertainment, not just comics.
The festivity will be divided into three main themes: content, including games, animation, films, music and comics; platforms, including online streaming services and social media; and technology, including the latest advancements in the culture tech sector such as artificial intelligence, non-fungible tokens (NFT) and the metaverse.
Special guests include actors Ross Butler, Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Chester Cebulski, BBC Studios animator Joe Brumm, animation director Takayuki Hirao and the actors behind virtual YouTubers Takanashi Kiara and Hakos Baelz.
Visitors will be able to take part in the exhibition booths and cosplay competition. An open game challenge will take place onsite for people to compete in.
