People are cancelling their reservations for tourist attractions on Jeju Island as Typhoon Hinnamnor approaches Korea.

Accommodation reservations from Sept. 3 to 4 at Jeju Shinhwa World, a resort complex in Jeju, dropped to 30 percent on Thursday, from the previous day’s 70 percent.

“Around 1,000 room reservations have been canceled,” a spokesperson for Jeju Shinhwa World said.

Bookings for package tours in Jeju that start on Monday also dropped 40 percentage points, according to a tour company.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) categorized Hinnamnor as a “super strong” typhoon — the strongest of the agency’s four categories, strong enough to damage buildings.

Once the typhoon reaches Jeju around Monday, it is expected more than 300 millimeters (12 inches) of rain will fall on Jeju Island, according to the KMA Thursday.
