A woman has been found dead in a flooded underground parking lot in Pohang, North Gyeongsang on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Gyeongbuk Fire Department.

A total of eight individuals were reported missing after entering underground parking lots in Nam District, Pohang on Tuesday morning, reportedly after an announcement was made in the apartment complex telling residents to move their cars out of the parking lot, which was flooded due to heavy rainfall caused by Typhoon Hinnamnor.

Firefighters are currently pumping out water and searching for the missing people.

Two deaths have already been reported due to the typhoon.

A woman in her 70s was swept away by high tides in Pohang, and was reported missing Tuesday 7:57 a.m. She was found dead an hour later, according to the regional fire agency.

Another woman in her 80s was found dead at her house in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang, after being trapped under a pile of dirt, according to Gyeongju Fire Station Tuesday.

“It looks like a pile of soil came into the house due to the high pressure,” said a spokesperson for the regional fire station.

A total of 244.7 millimeters of rain fell as of 1 p.m. Tuesday in Gyeongju due to Typhoon Hinnamnor, according to the Daegu Meteorological Agency.
