Hanwha Corporation’s E&C division signed a memorandum of understanding to develop offshore wind power plants with Equinor, an energy company based in Norway.

The two will work together to jointly develop local offshore wind power plants that Hanwha’s E&C division is contracted to build, according to an agreement signed Monday.

The E&C division has plans to build offshore wind power plants with a combined capacity of 2 gigawatts by the end of 2030, which includes a project in Shinan, South Jeolla. It is also working on building plants in Boryung in South Chungcheong, Goheung and Yeonggwang in South Jeolla and Yangyang in Gangwon.

The division will make more investments with Equinor in the future.

Equinor is a state-owned energy company in Norway. The company is known for building the world’s first floating wind power plant in Peterhead, Scotland.

“We are looking forward to cooperation with Equinor enhancing our scope of business and competitiveness,” said Kim Seung-mo, CEO of Hanwha Corporation’s E&C division. “Preparing for a zero-carbon era, we are planning to focus on renewable energy sectors such as on- and offshore wind power plants to become an eco-friendly infrastructure developer.”
