Two deaths reported due to heavy snow, many injuries, accidents reported

Deaths and accidents related to the heavy snow that fell mainly in the central regions of the country were reported across the country yesterday.
 
Two people died in car accidents in Daejeon and South Chungcheong area due to icy roads.  
 
A one-ton cargo truck skid in an icy underground passageway in Daejeon and crashed into a wall around 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday. The driver in his 40s was sent to hospital and later died. 
 
A taxi driver in his 60s was killed in Nonsan, South Chungcheong, around 9:50 a.m. on the same day after his car skidded into a lake. 
 
Cold wave warnings were issued in capital areas including Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi, and North Chuncheong and North Gyeongsang as of 11 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Central Disasters and Safety Countermeasures.
 
An 87-year-old man died due to a cold-induced illness on Tuesday in Yesan, South Chungcheong. 
 
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, a total of five people died and 97 were seriously ill because of cold-induced illnesses since Dec. 1.
 
Over 200 reports were made related to frost in Ulsan.
 
Heavy snow is expected to continue Thursday in Gwangju and most areas of South Jeolla. Warnings were issued in the region.
 
Around 10 to 25 centimeters snow is expected to fall by Friday morning, with some areas seeing over 30 centimeters, according to the Gwangju Regional Office of Meteorology.
 
As of Thursday morning, a total of 24 flights departing and arriving at Gwangju Airport were canceled and three flights were canceled at the Yeosu Airport.
